COP26 ramps up business urgency
COP26 ended with a celebration of a Glasgow Climate Pact, and a flurry of agreements between the political representatives of 197 national states, dozens of international agencies, and thousands of non-governmental organizations.
The primary agreements revolve around how aggressively the national states – the ‘parties’ – will pursue the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. Emission reductions will be achieved predominantly by passing regulations on companies operating within their jurisdictions, which in turn will add penalty costs and operating burden to businesses to incentivize them to reduce their emissions.
