Role Details

This role is part of our Enterprise Risk Modelling team focused on developing risk scenarios to support large global corporations understand the impact and mitigate against large systemic risks. We’re looking for a candidate with prior modelling experience ideally from within a corporate risk management function or consultancy firm.

In this role you will be responsible for modelling a broad range of risks including financial disasters, geopolitical conflicts, social unrest, and cyber-attacks. The team are required to use a range of modelling techniques, leverage structured and unstructured data sources, and carry out extensive research in order to quantify the impact of these events on corporate balance sheets.

In addition to modelling work, a major part of the role is communicating about the research and underlying methodology to our clients and being able to justify the modelling assumptions. The role will also work alongside our growing team to help shape the broader model development agenda. Finally, you will support our product development, integrating these models into our existing model framework.

Essential Skills

• Educated at degree level in a relevant specialist subject, for example: engineering, physics, geography, computer sciences, or applied mathematics.

• Strong ability in modelling languages (Python preferred but other languages may include, R, MatLab, SQL, Excel VBA, C++)

• Experience with a relational database (such as PostgreSQL)

• Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific and risk modelling concepts to external stakeholders in a commercial setting.

• Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and deadlines and to work independently in a highly dynamic environment, demonstrating initiative and self-motivation.

• Ability to manage multiple concurrent goals and work across a diverse team of scientists and engineers.

• A creative and open-minded approach to solving problems, sometimes with team input and sometimes alone.

• Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific topics and analyses to other non-expert teams and clients.

Desirable skills

• Prior experience (5+ years) of enterprise risk modelling or scenario development either in a corporate risk function, consultancy or academic research position.

• Confidence working on consultancy projects and handling client relationships, such as maintaining regular communications, project planning and managing division of labour on an agreed timeline.

• Educated at PhD level in a relevant specialist subject.

• Skills in working with GIS systems such as Quantum GIS and/or programmatic GIS such as GeoPy or Spatial SQL.

• Experience in team management incl. hiring and onboarding new hires.

• Dashboard development and data visualisation experience.

• Familiarity with MVC/ORM with Django and/or Flask.

• Experience working with software development teams to implement your research and modelling solutions.
