In partnership with the University of Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies, Risilience held its annual conference, Sustainable Futures: Connecting climate and nature with business for better outcomes, at the Barbican Centre, London in May 2024.
Sustainable Futures brings together sustainability and risk leaders from the world’s largest organisations to help solve the greatest sustainability challenges facing business today.
We were delighted to be joined by Dr Akshat Rathi, award-winning, senior climate reporter for Bloomberg News, who delivered a keynote presentation based on his new book: ‘Climate Capitalism’.

Akshat Rathi is an award-winning senior climate reporter for Bloomberg News. He is the host of Zero, a weekly climate podcast for Bloomberg Green and writes a weekly newsletter on climate solutions.
He has a PhD in chemistry from the University of Oxford, and a BTech in chemical engineering from the Institute of Chemical Technology in Mumbai. He has worked for Quartz and The Economist. His work has been cited in widely read global publications, including New York Times, Washington Post, New Yorker, The Guardian, Wall Street Journal and Financial Times.
Appointed in 2023 as Chief Sustainability Officer for PepsiCo Europe, Archana oversees the development and acceleration of PepsiCo’s sustainability strategy (known as PepsiCo Positive) in Europe.
In her previous role as Vice President Climate, Water & Sustainable Ops at PepsiCo Europe and Chief Sustainability Officer for PepsiCo, UK & Ireland, Archana led PepsiCo Europe’s drive to be a Net Zero and a Net Water Positive company, trialling and scaling several industry leading technologies within the value chain. Prior to that, she also led PepsiCo’s packaging sustainability agenda and drove the company’s effort towards reducing, recycling and reinventing beverage and snacks packaging.
Archana brings a strong commercial and strategic background as well as geographically diverse experience to this agenda. She has a strong track record of driving business growth, both at GlaxoSmithKline where she led multiple brands and categories across the globe (Europe, Africa and Asia) and at The Bountiful Company (now acquired by Nestle) where she led marketing and business development for the international region (all ex-US).
Before she moved to the industry, Archana was an Associate Partner at global consulting firm, McKinsey & Co. across India, Brussels and London, serving clients in the consumer and healthcare verticals. She advised clients on topics ranging from corporate strategy to marketing plans to operational effectiveness.
Alison has been Group Head of Risk at Nestlé since 2015. With over 20 years of extensive financial and commercial experience, she has worked with global corporations across diverse sectors including consumer goods, pharmaceuticals, and media. Throughout her career, Alison has held senior finance positions that have allowed her to gain a comprehensive understanding of the entire value chain. Her expertise spans across multiple functions including research and development, procurement, production, business development, marketing, and sales.
Sandrine Ricard is a seasoned leader who has been shaping Chivas Brothers’ sustainability strategy since October 2017 as the Head of Sustainability, focusing on implementing the “Good Times from A Good Place” roadmap. Since July 2022, she’s also taken on the role of Deputy Director Sustainability & Responsibility for Pernod Ricard in the UK, overseeing Pernod Ricard UK and Pernod Ricard Global Travel Retail in addition to Chivas Brothers.
Previously, she served as Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility at Pernod Ricard, pioneering the creation of the department and crafting a meticulously structured sustainable strategy. Her influence extended globally, fostering a sustainable leaders network across affiliates, and birthing innovative initiatives like the ground-breaking “Responsib’All Day” event and a global responsible drinking app.
With over 15 years in sustainability, Sandrine brings a genuine passion for Sustainable Business. Her diverse background includes work in public relations and communications in the USA.
Beyond the corporate sphere, Sandrine sits on the board of the Institut Oceanographique Paul Ricard, contributing to the preservation of marine biodiversity and addressing climate change through research and outreach.
Committed to growth, Sandrine completed The Cambridge Sustainability Leadership course, enriching her expertise.
Helen is a highly accomplished finance professional currently Group Financial Controller at Burberry. With her extensive expertise across several areas of finance, Helen leads the Group Financial Reporting, Group Financial Controls, and Sustainability Finance teams. Helen has experience of many sectors, her professional journey began at Deloitte where she qualified as a Chartered Accountant and then moved through increasingly senior finance roles at Cadbury Schweppes, BT and Smith & Nephew where she has held roles in Group Finance, Financial Controls, M&A, Finance Systems, Financial Shared Services and Business Partnering. She is a keen contributor to the developments in sustainable financial reporting and is part of the A4S Controller Forum.
Anna has over 18 years of experience in the life sciences industry, working at GSK, global FTSE10 company. She followed the ESG thread advancing environmental (carbon & nature), social (DEI, access, equity, responsible consumptions), and governance (ethical standards) aspects of the ESG agenda. She is passionate about creating a strong business and building a better world & believe they are not conflicting, but complementary goals.
Sarah Webster is the Sustainable Business Director at Britvic plc. Sarah is responsible for setting the sustainable business framework, Healthier People Healthier Planet. This includes setting global minimum standards of execution, governance oversight and supporting the ESG committee together with communicating and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to generate a transparent understanding of Britvic Plc’s progress & challenges.
Charlotte is the UK Cloud Sustainability Specialist. Her key focus is around helping customers solve their most complex data/analytics challenges and meet their strategic business goals on cloud and how cloud technologies can be leveraged in the sustainability space. She is also helping Climate Tech Founders grow their business, and their impact, faster and more efficiently.
Horst is Director of Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) for nVent Electric plc and responsible for the EMEAI and APAC regions. During his career he has held positions of increasing responsibility in the area of EHS, Quality and Facility Management for several multinational corporations, such as Motorola, Carrier Linde and Pentair. Horst has also been Non-Executive Director for INEP, a not for profit research institute for sustainable management in Germany.
Horst is a German native and has lived several years in both the U.S. and the UK. He is a trained Digital Six Sigma (DSS) Black Belt, a certified Safety Professional and a Certified Quality Manager. He has served as an Expert to the EU Economic and Social Committee and was the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Risk Communication at the German Major Accident Hazards Commission (KAS).
Christopher McKenry is the Group Director of the International Sustainability Department at ALDI SOUTH Group. With robust skills in the areas of management, supply chain and retail, he oversees the development of ALDI’s Global Sustainability Strategy (GSS) and Strategic positioning in the areas of Human Rights and Healthy Nutrition, Climate and Nature, Circularity and Packaging as well as Food Waste. These efforts embed sustainability across 11 markets worldwide and honour ALDI’s ambition to make sustainability affordable for everyone.
Ben is at the forefront of PwC’s climate and nature analytics services, utilising alliances with data partners to drive corporate environmental action. Ben led the largest corporate TNFD pilot in collaboration with the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), supporting 23 companies to test the framework as it was under development. He is currently leading PwC’s involvement as ‘knowledge partner’ for the “It’s Now for Nature” global campaign, which was developed by Business for Nature and aims to rally businesses to take action on nature through developing nature strategies.
Rowan joined Howden Group as CEO Climate Risk & Resilience in June 2023. Previously he led the Climate and Resilience Hub (CRH) at WTW which he grew to over 130 climate risk professionals across parametrics and wider climate related disciplines. At CRH, Rowan led the creation of the Insurance Development Forum (IDF) with the UN, World Bank and Industry Leaders and incubated the award-winning Coalition for Climate Resilient Investment. Previously he served on the board of Willis Re as CEO Analytics and founded the Willis Research Network. Rowan served on the UK Prime Minister’s Council for Science & Technology and the International Insurance Society Executive Committee. He was made CBE in 2016 for Services to the Economy through Risk, Insurance and Sustainable Growth.
Phil has dual roles in IBM Consulting: leading the UKI Sustainability Services business, and leading the EMEA Energy & Resources business. His team in the UKI works across all industries helping clients with their sustainability challenges, from ESG data and performance management, to sustainable supply chains and in Green IT. In his industry role he leads on clients in the energy sector – and where the 2 roles come together is Phil’s focus on all aspects of how technology enables and can accelerate the energy transition covering all aspects of the future energy system, including green hydrogen, EV ecosystems, grid transformation, energy markets enabling net zero customer propositions.
His experience in data science and software engineering spans multiple industries and applications, and his passion for the power of data extends far beyond his work for Coefficient’s clients. In April 2017 he created SixFifty in order to predict the UK General Election using open data and advanced modelling techniques. Previous experience includes Lead Data Scientist at YPlan, business analytics at Apple, genomics research at Imperial College London, building an ed-tech startup at Knodium, developing strategy & technological infrastructure for international non-profit startup STIR Education, and losing sleep to many hackathons along the way.
John is also a co-organiser of PyData London, co-founded Humble Data in 2019 to promote diversity in data science through a programme of free bootcamps, and in 2020 was a Committee Chair for the PyData Global Conference. He is currently a Fellow of Newspeak House with interests in open data, AI ethics and promoting diversity in tech.
Andrew is CEO and a founder member of Risilience. He is responsible for the overall business success and direction of the company, and was the main architect behind the models and analytics that go into the Climate Risilience™ and Enterprise Risilience™ platforms.
Andrew has previously been one of the early-stage innovators of the catastrophe modelling industry for insurance, where he has created and brought numerous analytics products to market.
Andrew is one of the founder members of Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies at Judge Business School, University of Cambridge, where he maintains a position as Chief Scientist.
Danny is Chairman and a founder member of Risilience. He is an authority on managing risk in business and has published widely in his capacity as professor of Operations Research at the University of Cambridge Judge Business School, where he also founded the Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies for which he is Academic Director.
Danny’s interests in business risk include identification and management of systemic risk, risk aversion in investment, economic equilibria models and optimisation methods.
Scott is SVP Model Development at Risilience. He has authored over two-dozen academic publications and dozens of professional reports on energy, climate change and sustainable finance. He completed an MPhil and PhD at the University of Cambridge where he was also a Junior Research Fellow at Darwin College.
Scott was a member of the Centre for Risk Studies and continues to contribute as Chief Economist to guide key research at the Centre.
Andy is Climate Policy Lead at Risilience, with a focus on the policy response to climate change and its impacts on transition risk.
Before joining Risilience, Andy was based in the Cabinet Office where he worked on the negotiation strategy for the UK’s Presidency of COP26. Prior to this, Andy worked in the Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy on energy security and decarbonisation policy. Before entering the Civil Service, Andy worked in a range of environmental- and renewables- focussed roles, including consultancy, and in planning and development at Lightsource BP.
Andy holds an MSc in Global Energy and Climate Policy from SOAS, University of London. He also holds a BA (Hons) in German and Dutch and an MA in Town and Regional Planning, both from the University of Sheffield.
Nina is SVP Marketing at Risilience. She brings 25 years’ marketing experience to the business and is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end marketing function.
Prior to joining Risilience, Nina held senior marketing roles at other rapidly-scaling tech companies, sitting on leadership teams responsible for awards such as Deloitte Fast 50, Queen’s Award for Enterprise, FT1000 and Times Tech Track 100.
Mary is Director of Nature Risk Analytics at Risilience. She leads research activities and model development focused on the dual climate-nature challenge. Mary is responsible for developing modelling solutions that support clients to speak to the demands of a diverse range of nature-related regulatory drivers.
Prior to joining Risilience, Mary led a team at Deloitte focused on delivering bespoke climate and nature risk modelling work. She was responsible for coordinating model development for a range of industries with a range of unique climate and nature risk concerns.
Mary has a background in economics and energy systems modelling, and previously worked at Cambridge Econometrics where she consulted on climate risk analysis and served as climate risk expert for Mercer’s ‘Investing in a time of Climate Change’ series.
Oliver is Director of Environmental Risk Analytics at Risilience, where he leads the research and model development practice related to climate change, sustainability, and natural capital risks.
He has been instrumental in developing Risilience’s science and quantitative models to assess financial risks to businesses from environmental risks. Oliver is passionate about empowering organisations with innovative analytics to address the double-materiality of environmental risk and support net zero business transformation.
Previously in his role at the Cambridge Centre for Risk Studies, Oliver’s research focused on quantifying the economic impacts of natural catastrophes and emerging risk scenario development for enterprise risk management.
He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Risk, majoring on physical climate change risk and natural hazard models, and a BSc in Physical Geography from Durham University.
Tom is VP, Client Solutions and is responsible for supporting clients as they use Risilience products and ensuring accurate climate and enterprise analytics. In this role he oversees all client service and support operations and implements initiatives to maximize efficiency and client satisfaction.
A passionate science communicator, his commentary has been featured in media, including television (BBC News, Sky News) and print (Financial Times, Wall Street Journal).
Joshua is Senior Environmental Risk Modeller at Risilience, where he works on the development of scenarios to assess business risks. This involves building research-supported models to analyse the likelihood, severity and overall impact of these risks. His focus is on emerging risk, using data to provide clients with robustly parameterised models that communicate the potential impacts to their business in a given risk scenario.
Prior to joining Risilience, Joshua worked as an economic consultant, supporting both multinational businesses and public sector clients.
Additionally, Joshua trained as a chartered accountant, working as a financial auditor for five years.
Mark is VP of Software Engineering at Risilience and leads the software development team responsible for the technical development and operation of the company’s cloud-based SaaS offerings.
Mark has over 15 years experience developing risk-management systems and analytics. Prior to Risilience, he was Senior Director of Analytics at Guidewire, where he managed the engineering team, developing predictive analytics for the insurance industry.
Mark holds a Master’s degree in Statistical Science from University College London, where his thesis focussed on statistical approaches to modelling extreme flood depths in the UK, and a Master’s degree in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.
